Welcoming speech of Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan at the meeting with NKR National Assembly deputies of all convocations dedicated to the Day of elections to the first convocation NKR Supreme Council
Your Grace,
Respected deputies,
Dear guests,
Ladies and gentlemen
I am glad to welcome you, all the participants of the meeting with NKR National Assembly deputies of all convocations and congratulate on the Day of elections of the first convocation NKR Supreme Council deputies. It is a memorable day that has had great significance in building our young independent statehood.
20 years ago on 28 December of 1991 the elections became one of the first steps in the formation of the Artsakh Republic embarked on the path of democracy. The newly formed executive body was fated to adopt our state independence declaration fixing by this the results of the Independence referendum, form state governing bodies, create legal field, and secure necessary conditions for the state to function in an appropriate way. The significance of all this is doubled if we take into account the fact that our country found itself in the conditions of imposed war. It was a unique feat, the best manifestation of patriotism.
Very difficult and responsible tasks were set before the deputies of the first NKR Parliament. The future of our nation was also derivative from correct and efficient realization of those issues. Some of the first parliamentarians have sacrificed their lives for the defense of our Motherland. Eternal honor and glory to our martyrs!
After two decades we can proudly state that today our republic is on a completely new height and each of you had contributed greatly for this to happen. Be sure that the generations to come will worthily estimate your efforts, which laid a stable basis for further development of Artsakh.
Dear friends,
It does not mean that we have nothing else to do. On the contrary, there are serious issues set before us that require coherent, principled and consistent work. Perfection of the legal field, deepening inter-parliamentary ties, activating efforts directed to strengthen defense capacity and international recognition of Artsakh are among the urgent issues on the agenda of our National Assembly.
Respected attendees,
Our meeting takes place on the eve of the New Year and Christmas. Using the opportunity I would like to congratulate all of you on the coming New Year and wish peace, robust health and all the best in the name of prosperous and secure future of our native land and people. Let the year of 2012 bring new successes to the Artsakh Republic and all of you.
Thank you!
Stepanakert,
December 28, 2011.
